Board of Education / District Advisory Council
The Board of Education determines district policies and provides strategic guidance to ensure every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world. Board members serve as representatives of the community in providing direction for Roaring Fork Schools programs and ensuring that the school system operates efficiently and effectively. In fulfilling this responsibility, the board concerns itself primarily with adopting policy, planning school services, and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of district services.
The Board of Education meets regularly during the school year--typically on the second and fourth Wednesdays, starting at 5:30pm. All regular meetings are open to the public. See the Board Meeting Dates below for a full schedule.
Board Goals for the 2018-19 Year
This year, the board has committed to accomplishing the following three goals:
- Higher structure board meetings
- Greater involvement with and connection to the community and in partnerships as part of the Roaring Fork Schools team, to improve district engagement and to maximize board member talents

How to Address the Board
Please know that while the Board greatly values all comments from the public, the Board will not respond, but will follow up as needed after the meeting. Please be aware that any personnel or individual student matters are considered confidential under Colorado Law and it is out of respect of the law, our employees and students, that we ask that those discussions take place privately in executive session.
Current Board Members
Jen lives in Old Snowmass with her husband Josh and her son Jack. Jen is a trainer and coordinator with the Ski and Snowboard Schools of Aspen. She is also a student and teacher at Rocky Mountain Martial Arts in Basalt.
Mary Elizabeth Geiger
Mary Elizabeth has lived in Glenwood Springs since 2001. She is an attorney specializing in real estate, land use, municipal and water law, and worked with Sherry Caloia until her election to the District Attorney Office in 2013, at which time Mary Elizabeth began working at Garfield & Hecht, P.C. Mary Elizabeth and her husband, Chris, have two children in Glenwood Springs schools. She has served on the City of Glenwood Springs Planning and Zoning Commission since 2008, was a board member and president at OUR School Preschool from 2006-2014, and serves on the Ninth Judicial District Judicial Performance Commission.
Jennifer lives in the Basalt area with her husband, Scott, and two children in Basalt schools. She has been a volunteer leader in the schools for the past 7 years and enjoys working in the school environment as a substitute teacher. Other local volunteer contributions include her role as a tutor for English in Action and her past service as a Girl Scout leader for 5 years. She has also worked in the local magazine and advertising field during her 20+ years in the Valley, and currently works part-time for a media-buying company.
District Accountability Committee / Family Wellness Advisory Council Documents
The purpose of the Family Wellness Advisory Council is to ensure the Roaring Fork School District and its community partnerships meet families’ needs through Early Childhood, Family Services, Wellness and other programs. This Council provides legal oversight, ensuring that legal requirements and District policies related to Family Services, ECE and Wellness are followed. The Council provides financial oversight, ensuring that budgets are responsive and appropriate to meet the goals of its programs. The Council acts as our Local Interagency Coordinating Council to ensure the local child identification process meets the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In addition, the council acts as our District Accountability Committee and provides meaningful input on how our schools operate by learning about and making recommendations on the district’s budget, state accreditation ratings, and teacher and administrator evaluations.
